Iri is an artist from the Balkans, born in Bucharest, where she spent her childhood and youth in a context marked by the strictness of the regime at the time. From a very young age, she showed overflowing creativity that neither her teachers nor her parents really managed to understand. At a time when young people were expected to choose a stable profession above all, her dream of an artistic career remained in the background, even though her heart kept pulling her back to it. She first emigrates to Canada, then settles in Switzerland. During her childhood, she already explores many forms of artistic expression: drawing, making clothes, playing the guitar… Her love for drawing is so strong that her literature teacher once called her parents to school, amused to see her portrait in her notebook instead of class notes. Life, however, leads her towards a career in accounting. But deep passions never really disappear. In 2016, a simple ad for an open day at a drawing class changes the course of her story. She signs up, rediscovers the joy of creating she had known in her youth, and from that moment, a new artistic momentum is born. Gradually, drawing gives way to painting, and then to an ever-richer exploration of styles, techniques, and materials. Self-taught, Iri builds a universe where innocence, poetry, deliberate naivety, and bright colors come together to capture moments of joy. Her works invite us to slow down, reconnect with simplicity, and remember that happiness often shows up in the brightest hues. Alongside her professional life, she continually pursues her artistic research. Each new creation is an exploration of her inner world, where emotions take shape on the canvas. Her permanent exhibition, regularly refreshed at Café de la Place in Geneva, near Cornavin station, allows her to share her work with an ever-growing audience through pieces using a variety of techniques. Her exhibition at CERN in Geneva in June 2026 marks an important milestone in her journey, giving her visibility with an international audience. She showcases a selection of paintings as well as artistic greeting cards created over the years, reflecting the diversity of her universe. Her inspiration comes from everything around her: nature, faces, movements, planets, everyday emotions, and even words. That’s why several of her works include her own poems or a few inspiring phrases that extend the dialogue between the image and the viewer. Always driven by the desire to experiment, Iri explores different techniques, plays with textures and reliefs to bring depth, movement, and life to her creations. Through each of her works, she aims to convey an emotion, tell a story, and invite the viewer’s eye to travel beyond the canvas.
